Work Schedule: Weekdays; Monday through Friday: 7:00am – 5:00pm

Description of Duties or Services:

  • Utilize technical skills and professional judgement to provide medications to patients in accordance with current accepted policy and procedures
  • Review all prescription orders for appropriateness in regard to medication, dose, route, interval, and contraindications
  • Provide medication information to staff and patients as needed
  • Over-see the day-to-day operation of the medication delivery system and assure integrity of all medications is maintained and medications are properly stored
  • Assist in ordering, stocking, storing, and dispensing of prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and BOP Formulary constraints
  • Ensure all medications are properly packaged and labeled
  • Assist in preparing unit dose or pre-packaged medications
  • Track inventory and maintain supply management, to include maintaining an accurate inventory of narcotic medications, needles, and syringes
  • Possess a working knowledge and maintain technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues
  • Checks prescriptions prepared by support staff (e.g. pharmacy technicians) to ensure they are error free and evaluated for drug interactions
  • Perform minor clerical duties; such as use of BOP electronic medical record, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, filing, typing, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients and maintaining stock records
  • Process prescription refills
  • Physically count and label medication
  • Prepare and package expired medications to be sent to contracted reverse distributor or contracted waste management vendor
  • Any duties assigned by the Health Services Administrator or the Chief Pharmacist that fall within the scope of duties for a local community pharmacist

Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Phar.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree
  • Applicants also must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
  • You must have at least one year of professional pharmacy experience
  • Must be able to distinguish basic colors
  • Ability to communicate orally
  • Ability to select, compound, and administer medications
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations and procedures
  • Ability to deal with emergency situations
  • Current Physical and TB test
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws and joint commission regulations
  • Other qualifications may be required
